Crowns and Bridges

Living with a missing or compromised tooth presents several daily challenges, such as chewing and eating foods comfortably or confidently talking with other people. These limitations can take a toll on your confidence and even impact your nutrition.

But the good news is that your team at Mountain Dental Care offers excellent solutions for restoring damaged or missing teeth with dental crowns and bridges.

When Do We Recommend Dental Crowns?

The dentists at MDC may recommend a tooth crown in Tamborine Mountain in these situations.
Decayed Tooth
A severely decayed, fractured or damaged tooth will have the best outcome with a dental crown.
Root Canal
After root canal treatment, it’s essential to strengthen your tooth with a dental crown to ensure function.
Replace a Filling
If you have a large old filling that’s broken down, a dental crown can effectively rebuild the tooth.
Bridge Anchors
Two dental crowns are anchors for a dental bridge with one or more prosthetic teeth in between.
Implant Restoration
A custom porcelain crown is the restoration for a single dental implant.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our dentists may recommend a dental crown in various situations to protect and restore your tooth's function and appearance. A crown is a custom-made 'cap' that covers the entire visible portion of your tooth, providing strength, improving its shape, and restoring function.

We typically suggest a dental crown in the following scenarios:
  • After root canal treatment — A crown helps protect the treated tooth from further damage or infection.
  • For severely decayed teeth — When a large filling isn't sufficient to restore the tooth, a crown can provide better protection and stability.
  • To support a dental bridge — Crowns anchor a bridge securely to adjacent teeth.
  • For cracked or weakened teeth — A crown can hold parts of a cracked tooth together and prevent further damage.
  • To cover misshapen or severely discoloured teeth — Crowns can dramatically improve the appearance of your smile.
  • To restore a dental implant — A crown is the implant's visible 'tooth' portion.
  • For teeth ground down from bruxism — Crowns can restore the height and function of worn teeth.

How Dental Crowns Restore Your Smile

A crown is designed to cover the remaining healthy structure of your tooth like a cap, protecting the integrity of the tooth and its root.

Our dentists will design your crown to closely mimic your natural tooth’s shape and shade so it blends seamlessly with your smile.

When Do We Recommend a Dental Bridge?

A bridge uses two crowns anchored to healthy teeth to support one or more prosthetic teeth in between that fill the gaps left by missing teeth.

Bridges are ideal for patients who aren’t good candidates for dental implants or may not want to endure implant surgery.

The Crown and Bridge Process

Completing a dental crown or bridge in Tamborine Mountain is similar and straightforward. It typically requires two appointments and two to three weeks to finish.

At your first appointment, our dentists will prepare your tooth for its new restoration by taking impressions for the dental lab. Then, we’ll make a temporary crown for you to wear while our trusted dental lab finishes your new restoration.

The dental lab usually takes two to three weeks to complete your new crown or bridge. When it’s ready, you’ll return to Mountain Dental Care to have it permanently placed by one of our dentists. They’ll also make any adjustments needed to ensure your bite functions correctly.

Crowns and Bridges Technology

Digital Impressions

Instead of traditional messy putty, our dentists use a small, handheld scanner to capture precise 3-D images of your teeth and gums. This advanced technique is more comfortable for you and provides incredibly accurate results. Digital impressions allow us to create perfectly fitted crowns, bridges and other dental prosthetics with greater efficiency.

The process is quick, and you can even see the 3-D model of your mouth on screen immediately after scanning. This technology not only improves the quality of your dental work but also reduces waiting times, ensuring you receive top-notch care with minimal fuss.

Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.
